How to Plan Your Week to Increase Productivity
If you’re one of these people who work for hours at a time but then at the end wonder what you have actually achieved, then you are not alone. Often, simply sitting down at your work space or computer with no goals in mind for the day can be a hindrance to your productivity.
Forward Thinking
A great way to get the most out of your time for the week is to plan ahead. Take the time on Sunday evening or first thing Monday morning to sit down and plan the week ahead. Take a look at what you need to have achieved by the end of the week and break down your time in to manageable blocks.
By laying out the week ahead, you can avoid moments of “faffing” and not knowing which direction you’re meant to be heading in. Using a page a day diary or a digital planner like Google Calendar can help you stay on track and maximise your time.
Track Your Time
You may think you're pretty good at gauging how much time you are spending on various tasks but if you actually stop and time yourself, you’d be surprised. A tool like Rescue Time can help by letting you know exactly how much time you spend on daily tasks, including social media, email, word processing, and apps.
There are lots of tools that can help you increase the productivity of your business which you should definitely consider using.
Break Time
It sounds counterintuitive but taking scheduled breaks can actually help improve concentration. Some research has shown that taking short breaks during long tasks helps you to maintain a constant level of performance; while working at a task without breaks leads to a steady decline in performance.
Say No to Multi-Tasking
While we tend to think of the ability to multitask as an important skill for increasing efficiency, the opposite may in fact be true. It has been found that attempting to do several tasks at once can result in lost time and productivity. Instead, make a habit of committing to a single task before moving on to your next project.
Plan out your week ahead to increase productivity and make the most of each working minute you have, including having a break!
