Here's How Your Biz BENEFITS From You Switching Off
"Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us." - Maya Angelou
The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting longer and we are hurtling FAST towards the busiest time of the year.
Holiday season obligations (both work and personal), shopping time, meals out, family time, etc.
The list goes on and on. And amongst it all, you're working hard to keep the same level of business success going at the same time.
However, it's becoming more widely accepted that taking time off is actually good for your brain.
So if just the idea of taking some time off from your biz has you in a cold sweat, here's how your biz benefits from you switching off and taking a bit of time to recharge its most valuable resource: YOU.
Reduced Stress
Stress can affect the mind and the body in many different ways, and the effects can sneak up on us.
How many times have you arrived home and found yourself snapping with agitation at a loved one?
Ever faced a looming deadline and found yourself paralysed from even starting on it?
Do you wake up at 3am and struggle to get back to sleep?
These are just some of the many indicators that you could be working under undue stress - and carrying on that way is how burnout happens.
Experiencing the negative effects of burnout made me realise that switching off was so important for my health, my wellbeing and the success of my business. But I don't want you to have to reach that place.
Recognising that you're feeling the effects of stress is a massive step forward - once you notice it, you can take steps to change it.
These tips are great if you find yourself unable to switch your brain off from 'work mode' when you get home and can help you bring down those stress levels.
Personally, I've made it part of my regular week to take Friday off work. Sometimes I'll spend it with family or loved ones, other times I'll take myself away for a day in my favourite spa.
Find the things that bring you joy and refresh your energy and make time for them every single week.
Once you reduce your stress levels, you'll see a whole host of benefits in your business:
⭐ Increased productivity
⭐ Projects run smoothly
⭐ Better relationships with your team
⭐ Stronger client relationships
⭐ Enhanced creative thinking
⭐ Better decision-making skills
How do you switch off and still run a successful, growing business?
It's important to have solid foundations in place to be able to take that all-important time away from your biz.
I cover these in more detail here but there are three main things you need to consider:
Planning - make sure you've properly scheduled your time away from the biz so you can build your other business-critical tasks around it, and your team knows exactly when you're not going to be around
Processes - spend time to get every internal and client-facing process clear and working well, so when you take time away from the business you know that everything is working as it should
Your Business A-Team - whether you have an employed team or a group of contractors working for you, these people will be the ones who will keep everything running smoothly while you take the time you need
Closing Thought
What can you do this month to make sure there's time for YOU over the busiest time of year? I'd love to hear your plan in the comments below.
All my best,
