How I Achieved A Work/Life Balance
There’s no denying it, the last 2 years have been a rollercoaster for us all - and I know so many of my fellow biz owners have really been feeling the effects of a hard couple of years.
Uncertainty, working longer hours than ever and financial worries all contribute to feeling stressed - and that puts you on the fast-track to burnout.
Because I’ve been there before. I’m super careful to be mindful of my energy and stress levels, and that’s why in 2021 I decided to make self-care a priority.
Here’s how I did it (and how you can, too).
Work smarter, not harder
So many biz owners I do consulting work with come to me because they’re super busy. They have no time to work on their business, or even to hire new people because they’re so stuck working ON their business.
But in reality, a lot of what they’re doing is ‘busy work’. You know the stuff that fills your calendar but doesn’t actually move the needle forward.
Meetings that could have been phone calls (or emails)
Reorganising your client files
Cleaning your desk
Checking your emails throughout the day
Remove the ‘busy work’ from your day and you could also find that you can think clearer.
I took a critical look at all my tasks and removed everything that wasn’t moving my business forward, delegated what I could to my trusted team, and I’m left doing the things that are truly in my zone of genius.
Take time away from your desk
Self-care is different for us all, but it’s important you take time to be more than just a business owner.
For me, it was important to be able to take every Friday out of my business. Sometimes I spend that extra time with my family, other times I take myself out for a spa day to recharge my batteries.
But that time invigorates me and makes me so much more effective. Not only in my business, but in my home life too.
Over to you
These are a couple of the things I’ve implemented to get a work/life balance, but there are so many more options available to you.
Give it a try and I’d love to know how you got on.
All my best,
