How To Successfully Lead A Remote Team
At Selina & Co., we’ve long been big believers in the power of a remote team.
It’s a business set up that means you can tap into the world’s best talent, work more productively than ever before and have a happier cohort who love the flexibility it offers them.
Today, it’s more than just a trend. The world of work is changing to deal with the ‘new normal’ — and it’s more important than ever to master your management style to get the most out of your team and scale your business (without the stress!).
Here are my top 3 tips!
Have regular check-ins
Keeping in touch is so important with any team structure — and even more so when you’re working remotely.
For daily check-ins, messaging software like Slack is a fabulous way of staying up to speed with the team and minimising email traffic.
At least once a week, I recommend catching up via video call to really connect, gauge how they’re feeling and notice if they need any extra support from you. Zoom, FaceTime or WhatsApp are all excellent options and totally free for one-to-ones!
2. Make the most of project management software
If you’re a lover of pen and paper or Excel is your most-used app — hear me out.
As much as you love them now, trust me when I say that project management software will be an absolute game changer in your biz — especially when it comes to leading your team.
From delegating tasks and following their statuses to using it as a hub for the whole team to access all of your SOPs and canned emails, it’s a one-stop solution to keeping everyone on the same page and minimising the amount of time you need to spend working in rather than on your business.
I love Trello — but Asana, Basecamp and ClickUp are all extremely popular too.
3. Invest in your systems
I am a HUGE believer in the power of systems and organisation. They save my sanity every single day - at work, at home and even in my sleep. I even have a 13-step morning routine SOP for my 6-year-old (yes, really!).
In my business, it looks like:
Admin and operations checklists — helping me to offload any menial and everyday tasks straight away
Canned email templates for my team and I to use for any repeated communication — such as team and client onboarding
Marketing workflows to make sure my online presence and social media marketing is running and growing on autopilot
Over to you…
2020 has shown us that we all need to master the art of remote working and management. Share this post with any friends or colleagues who would benefit from these tips!
