THIS Is How To Be The Best CEO You Can Be

Every time I hear an entrepreneur talk about the hustle like it’s a badge of honour, it reminds me just how far I’ve come.

That used to be me — working all hours, married to my laptop and drowning in stress.

Cut to today, entrepreneurship has finally given me the work-life balance I’d always dreamed of — but stepping into my CEO shoes was much harder than I thought it would be.

Call me crazy — but if you ask me, your best CEO work is done outside of your business.

Here are my top 3 tips to become the best BOSS you can be:

  1. Prioritise yourself

You can’t pour from an empty cup.

Take it from me — I understand exactly what it’s like to be everything to everyone and have zero energy left for yourself. But trust me when I say that I am the BEST business owner, parent and friend I can be when I take time for myself first.

Whatever that means for you is right — there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to self-care. For me, it means taking a long walk with our dog, making time for my skincare routine, prioritising medical appointments and regular time away from my phone.

Rather than pushing myself to work long hours and bury my head in my work, my self-care routine means I come back to my business feeling more energised, motivated and determined every single time.

2. Manage your time

OK — so this one isn’t strictly outside of your business — but hear me out.

Time management might not sound sexy, but it’s an entrepreneurial art form. We all have the same number of hours in the day, but the best business owners in the world know how to make them work as hard as possible.

From meticulously planning my priorities in my digital calendar to mapping out all of my projects and communicating with my team on Trello, creating canned emails for any notes I send out regularly to producing workflows for all of my business processes — www.selinajohnson.com/systemI have the systems and techniques to help me delegate like a boss nailed.

But it doesn’t just stop in my business.

Quality time for my girls, my husband, my family and my friends are non-negotiable. It’s what makes me happy and the reason I started my business in the first place — so I do everything I can to keep it uninterrupted, undisturbed and the constant during my week.

3. Educate yourself!

After working with so many incredible business owners, I can tell you that the ones who soar are the ones who go all in.

They’re obsessed with their craft and they love what they do — so they do the work to make sure they can consistently show up as a leader in their niche.

For me, that means education, education, education. There are so many brilliant entrepreneurs out there who are sharing their expertise — and the best way to stay on top of your game and bringing solid value to your clients and your audience is to soak it all up.

What’s next?

I’d love to know what you do to stay on top of your game and feel good in your business.
