I Did THIS To Beat Burnout In My Biz
Burnout… It’s the curse of the modern entrepreneur.
Am I right?
I remember when I left my corporate career in a bid to create a different life. One where I could get my girls ready for school and never miss a bath time again. I’d had enough of the 3-hour commute and feeling absolutely exhausted.
So when that same old feeling started to creep up on me once I had my head down in Selina & Co., I was done.
I knew I needed to take massive action if I wanted the life I was dreaming about to become a reality — so I got to work!
I grew my team
First things first — I knew that my business needed to be more than just me if I was going to be able to take time out without everything crumbling around me.
I’ll admit that I was absolutely terrified of letting someone else in. My business is my baby and it was so hard to let go — so I took my time. I thought long and hard about what I needed from my first recruit and spent time getting to know each and every one of my applicants to get a feel for who they were and what they were about.
And it worked!
My method was so effective that I distilled it into a rinse-and-repeat process that’s matched countless business owners with their ideal virtual assistants (take a look here to see what my clients are saying!).

I delegated like a boss
From my years of experience working behind the scenes for powerhouse women like Dame Zaha Hadid and Dame Julia Peyton-Jones, I knew that true balance needed more than just the perfect team.
You have to be able to delegate effectively if you want to even think about taking your eye off your biz. There’s nothing worse than hiring help only to spend even more time briefing them in!
I developed a plug-and-play system that kept all of my team singing from the same hymn sheet. Every single process, workflow and canned email was documented and accessible via Trello.
No confusion over what needs to be done and when or how to do it.
I scheduled ‘me-time’
Once everything was set up, I blocked out some much-needed ‘me-time’ in the diary. Space to think and clear my mind — spent exercising, reading, relaxing, enjoying time with my beautiful family and getting back to being me.
It turned out to be the best thing I’ve ever done for my biz. I was more energised, happier and ready to GO — and you can bet that my clients knew about it!
