What Does "Success" Mean To You?
Ask a group CEOs what their definition of success is, and you'll get a lot of different answers.
Maybe it's making 7 figures in their business.
Or being able to grow and expand their team.
It could even be leaving a lasting legacy on the world around them.
And every single one of these is a great marker for success.
But over the last few years, there's been a growing shift in how business owners define success - just as I have.
As you grow and build your business, it's easy to get caught up in the numbers.
You want to make 7 figures this year...
so you need 50 new clients...
which is about 250 new leads...
And so on.
These tangible, number-based goals are great - don't get me wrong. Because you can monitor these and create daily, weekly, and monthly targets based on them.
However, by the time my clients start to work with me, they've been focusing for so long on the numerical markers of success that they've forgotten to ask themselves one crucial thing:
What does a successful business look like to YOU?
If your ideal goal is to have the perfect work/life balance and only work 4 days a week - then working until 10pm every night and also on weekends isn't going to bring you happiness, no matter how close you get to your financial targets.
Maybe your idea of success is being able to take a long weekend out of the business every month - but you don't have a team in place you can trust. So instead you end up glued to your phone and working when you wanted to be relaxing.
So as well as defining your financial and numerical goals, try thinking about the wider picture. Visualise how success in your business would impact on your home life, too. And if you need a little help, I like these steps to guide you along the process.
For me, success comes in a few different ways:
Working with busy CEOs and bringing calm and order to their chaos
Developing a team who can take the reins of my business when I need them to
Taking every Friday out of the business so I can work on myself, spend time with loved ones, or spend some time resting
Over to you
What does success look like to you? And how will that change how you structure your team, your business, and your working pattern? Let me know in the comments, I'd love to know!
