What Should You Focus On In Your Biz?
I work with a lot of CEOs and when they first start working with me, they tell me about ALL the things they're doing in their business to keep things going. They feel like it's expected of them to be doing everything in the business to be successful.
So it's no surprise that when I tell them it's quite the opposite, they get a bit of a shock!
When you try to do it all in your biz, you end up being the Chief of Everything (COE), not the CEO. And you spend most of your time on what I call "busy work" rather than the things that only you can do. Such as the things that GROW your biz.
But the other way is to stop doing everything yourself.
You're only one person, and your time is MUCH better spent in your zone of genius.
So how do you identify where you should be putting the focus in your business?
First, you need to break down all the tasks that are involved in running your biz (I know there are a lot, but bear with me here!)
Every biz owner has to wear countless hats, but some of the most common tasks you'll have to do regularly include:
Email management
Social media creation and management
PR & speaking opportunities
Networking
Admin
Tech implementation
People management
Strategy
Client delivery
Facebook ads & lead generation
...and the list could go on
It's no wonder you feel overwhelmed when you're trying to spin all of those different plates. And in fact, some of these tasks could be killing your productivity.
But where should you be focusing your energy? There are a couple of things to consider when looking at this.
What things do you LOVE doing and light you up when you get the chance to do them?
What things can ONLY YOU do, where the success of your biz is affected if you don't? (and be honest here, there are less tasks like this than you might think!)
What tasks are 'low-value' tasks where the cost of delegating them would be less than the equivalent time it takes you to do them?
Once you've answered these questions about your own biz tasks, you'll have a shorter list of things that only you can do. This is where your focus should be.
Over to you
Do this exercise as part of your planning & review process and switch your focus tasks as and when your business calls for it to make sure you're maintaining a well-balanced biz.
